Paints
Classic Ebru paints are high-quality pigment colors specially formulated for traditional Ebru art. These paints spread easily on the water surface, creating impressive patterns with vibrant colors. They contain natural pigments, making them safe for use by Ebru artists. Available in 105 ml glass or plastic bottles, they are suitable for long-term use.
Production
To produce these colors, colored earth is mixed with water and finely ground on a marble stone, a process that can take 3-4 hours depending on the color. The consistency should be like a salve. The ground paint is then mixed with water and ox gall in glass jars and left to stand for about 2 months, during which the mixture is regularly refreshed.
Brushes
Ebru artists make their own brushes using horsehair and rosewood handles. Horsehair is ideal due to its hardness and resistance to bacteria and mold. Rosewood is flexible, allowing smooth distribution of colors on water.
Ox Gall
Ox gall enables color application and prevents colors from mixing. It is boiled beforehand to extend its lifespan.
Thickening Agents
Carrageenan is a type of seaweed primarily found in Northern Europe. It is preferred over tragacanth in Europe due to its quicker thickening properties.
Bacteriostat
Bacteriostat preserves the water base by preventing bacterial and germ growth.
Turpentine
Only natural turpentine is used in Ebru, free from chemical additives.
Drying Rack
Papers are ideally dried on a drying rack, which has wheels for easy movement.
Pipette
Used for adding color, ox gall, or turpentine to control consistency and mixture.
Ebru Needle
The needle is used to shape designs on the water surface and is made of stainless material.
